“I pray for help – but she gets weaker by the day.”
$0 of $10,000 raised
Ibrahim holds his daughter in his arms and cries.
He can feel her tiny ribs move with each painful breath. Her family can’t afford to feed her so she eats handfuls of sugar to ease the pain.
“I feel pain and regret whenever I look at her. Sometimes we go three days without food. Salwa is six, but she’s still the size of a baby.”
“I have failed her. We have no money for food. She will die any day now.”Every night Salwa’s parents hold her in their arms, trying to get her to sleep - but the pain of hunger is too much to bear. They feed her what little they have - water and handfuls of sugar. It has no nutritional value butit eases the suffering for a few moments.
“But I place my trust in Allah SWT, knowing he will provide for us a solution soon”. “May god bless anyone that will help us”The doctors suspect that she is underdeveloped and likely has brain damage from malnutrition. They see hundreds of cases like this every week. Each and every one could have been solved with access to small amounts of food.
Then everything turned worse.
The pandemic hit. Food became even more scarce, and all humanitarian efforts lost funding. They used to have little, and now they have NOTHING.
Unfortunately this isn’t a rare occurrence. Thousands of children are turning out like Salwa, and parents like Ibrahim have nothing they can do but wait for the inevitable.
All this could have been solved with just 40 cents a day.
This is perhaps the saddest part. Food in the country is inexpensive. It doesn’t cost much to feed children in need - and food is all they need.
Don’t let these families lose hope. Don’t let these prayers go unanswered. You’re not just making a difference, you’re saving a life.
